Galapagos/evolution topic

For the past few weeks we have learnt about the Galapagos Islands. We watched videos and read books about animal adaptation. Watching the videos helped me to learn more about the Galapagos Islands and about adaptation. It helped  me to understand evolution and adaptation more than I used to. Some of the interesting things I have learnt about Galapagos Islands is:
  • They have very unique animals that can only be found there
  • In 1835 Charles Darwin landed on Galapagos Islands
  • Galapagos Islands are made up of 16 Islands
  • The Galapagos islands were made from volcanoes 3.5-4 million years ago
  • All the animals there had to adapt to suit their surroundings
  • The animals either flew to Galapagos or they floated across the sea
  • How the animals adapted to Galapagos Islands
  • Galapagos Penguins are half the size of Emperor Penguins
  • Blue-footed Boobies are recognised by their bright blue feet
Next term for a social studies topic we should do history because I think that it will be very interesting topic for us students to learn.

responsibilities

The responsibilities I have taken this year is Librarian and First aid, I also signed up for P.E monitor but didn't get chosen. How I have helped students in these roles is by taking care of them and assisting them when they need help.

What I have enjoyed about being a Librarian is that I get to get four books out instead of two and that I can suggest books for Penny to buy, and when the books arrived she would normally reserve them for me.

As a First aid monitor the things I enjoyed is that I can help people when they are hurt and I also can hang out with my friends.

From these roles I have learned that taking care of people is hard work, and also being a librarian is harder than it looks and sounds.

What I found challenging about these roles is when I’m on first aid and someone comes in with blood somewhere on them I would normally panic a little because of the things I need to do quickly. Being a librarian what I found challenging is that I sometimes forget where the books go or I can’t find the correct place to return it

So far I don’t have any suggestions in mind that could be done to these roles to improve them.

ASB getwise

On Wednesday morning a guy from ASB called Vane came to Room 11 to talk about money. I found the lesson worthwhile because I learnt new ways to earn money and about different jobs. Some key points from the lesson were:
  • Spend some money but save some to.
  • Ways to earn money.
  • How Jobs work.
  • Ways to save money.
  • Credit cards and Eftpos cards
Some financial goals I have is to save up money to go to Japan and to buy all the stuff I want and go to an anime convention. I also want to go to Korea and go sightseeing. I think I manage my money well, but what I could do to improve my money management in the future would be to stop buying things I don't need and to stop buying bubble tea.

Mission Fair

As you guys all know the mission fair was last Friday, I had so much fun along with my friends. The people who helped out with the stall with me was Sharon, Claire, Shantel, Caitlin and Catherine M, our stall was called Cookie Quarters. We did a stall with food and games. For the food we had different types of cookies, cupcakes, lollies and chocolate. The games we did was guess how many lollies in a jar and a chocolate game. The chocolate game involved coins and obviously chocolate. In this game you have to get your coin to land on the chocolate or in the circle that was drawn around it.

The things that went well in our group was... basically everything I guess. We had great team work, everyone contributed, the games and food were a huge success and we earned quite a lot of money.

Things I would do differently next time if I could would be having the poster up before Friday because that never happened. Also that we could be a bit more organised because we were in a bit of a mess when we were planning it out.
