Galapagos/evolution topic

For the past few weeks we have learnt about the Galapagos Islands. We watched videos and read books about animal adaptation. Watching the videos helped me to learn more about the Galapagos Islands and about adaptation. It helped  me to understand evolution and adaptation more than I used to. Some of the interesting things I have learnt about Galapagos Islands is:
  • They have very unique animals that can only be found there
  • In 1835 Charles Darwin landed on Galapagos Islands
  • Galapagos Islands are made up of 16 Islands
  • The Galapagos islands were made from volcanoes 3.5-4 million years ago
  • All the animals there had to adapt to suit their surroundings
  • The animals either flew to Galapagos or they floated across the sea
  • How the animals adapted to Galapagos Islands
  • Galapagos Penguins are half the size of Emperor Penguins
  • Blue-footed Boobies are recognised by their bright blue feet
Next term for a social studies topic we should do history because I think that it will be very interesting topic for us students to learn.
